6 days until class

Yes, I am doing a countdown. I also think I managed to get a spot in a chemistry course, but I’m not entirely sure. Long story. I’ll check on that tonight, since I’m not sure it will show up on my schedule before then. On the plus side, I got my rooming assignment, and my roommate doesn’t seem like she’s going to suck. I move in… very soon.

In other news, the extravaganza isn’t likely to continue anytime soon. Basically, because I’m not too likely to have a TV and VCR at the dorm. Nor time. If I can manage to find some elsewhere, I’ll do my best.

Until further notice, here’s the Spongebob Soulja Boy video. ‘Tis the only reason I ever listen to that song.

Wow, I never noticed just how gay that bird was…

I’m terribly sorry if that title offends any gays, I really have nothing against you guys. Let me say just which bird I’m talking about before we go any further. I am talking about the one in Thumbelina. Yes, this is an extravaganza post (go me)! So… yeah, I always hated him for some reason. Actually, there are probably plenty of reasons. He’s a bird, he’s french, I don’t like the way he’s drawn, and he’s just generally annoying. Other than that, I suppose it’s not a terribly horrible movie. It’s got a good song or two, and I’m not sure how closely it follows the source material, since I have yet to get to reading the H.C. Andersen fairy tales (I have a book of those, and a book of the Grimm’s  tales. I got the Grimm’s first, though, and am about 1/4 of the way through those, and would sort of like to finish them before moving on to Mr. Andersen. I have a need to do things like that in a particular order; I don’t know why). It’s still pretty cute, regardless. Would have been much better without the bird (I hate birds with a passion, especially annoying french ones), but you learn to live with bothersome things.

Before I make myself seem like an idiot of sorts, let’s move on to songs! Let Me Be Your Wings.

The next is a different player, because the only ones on Youtube were either completely out of sync (like, 3 seconds) or in a different language. So enjoy, you lucky people! Yer Beautiful, Baby (I love her gown in here).

Best songs in the movie, and *gasp!* the bird’s nowhere to be seen! Coincidence? I think not.

Hey, in case you didn’t know, Thumbelina’s voice is also that of Ariel (You know, that little mermaid girl). Man, that woman is talented. Alright, catch ya later!

I am… SO sad that I don’t own this movie

Due to the neglect that I’ve given my car over the past week, she has managed to leak enough antifreeze to start overheating yet again. This happened on my way to tang soo do, so I just said, “[expletive] it,” and decided to turn back for now so that I may add more (probably more oil, too) before tomorrow’s class. So now I have an hour during which time I would have been happily getting out some of the stress that my grad. project along with awating an answer from the university (not to mention my general insanity) has given me. Now, however, I will talk about a movie I haven’t seen in a little while, but is absolutely one of the awesomest movies ever made (and not just child cartoon movies and whatnot. I mean any genre, any time).

This is, of course, The Emperor’s New Groove, which may or may not have began the whole llama trend among us young’ns. Sadly, I never actually got around to buying it, so I don’t own it… but it’s still flippin’ awesome. I mean, all the “be nice to people” talk in it does bother me a bit, but there are just so many hilarious and quotable lines all throughout the whole thing.

For example, Yzma’s plan:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/FwY1yWry8AM&rel=1

Then there’s the ending, which seems almost entirely composed of these lines:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/9ISE0NhmELg&rel=1

Alright, I’ll go now and probably take a shower before watching Heroes (OMG, this episode looks mighty exciting!). So long, and remember:

I still wonder how they did the stop-motion with those skinny li’l legs of Jack’s

I lied. I’ll give you a movie today, because I’ve seen it within a couple years and thereby remember it enough to make a post about it. I was saving it for tomorrow, but I thought of a much better one for then (though it isn’t a cartoon, so I’m not certain whether it belongs in the extravaganza or not–I’ll figure that out).

So today’s movie ended up being The Nightmare Before Christmas. I know I saw it and loved it when I was a kid, but that was way back when I was, like, five. Then I got into high school and made friends with the punk-ish people (I tend to always fall in with the oddballs somehow) who were all obsessed with this movie. I then decided to show it at one of my little halloween parties I used to have back when I had friends (usually my four middle school friends. Oddly enough, the high school friends were never included in these). Yeah, I loved it as expected, and still do. Danny Elfman (extremely ironic name, if you knew me back in middle school) is about tied with John Williams for my favorite modern composer. I think I’ll give you two songs this time around.

First, the exciting and perhaps slightly creepy (in any given Tim Burton movie, what isn’t?) intro song:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/Bz2Ho62dVr0
Secondly, I present the fun, creepy, and gambling-ish-themed Oogie Boogie song:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/Yw0aoVpFCDw
Man, now that I watch that it makes me kinda sad. Poor santa. Oh well, I need to get to schooling now. If I do a lot today, I get halloween off tomorrow! :-D

That wasn’t flying! That was falling with style!

You get a movie today! I feel a little bad for hardly having any movies for the past week, so I decided to be real nice and watch one for ya last night before heading over to my sister’s to watch Heroes. Now, ain’t I just the best?

As indicated by the title, the movie today is Toy Story. It was the first ever CGI animated film, and was a huge success. The studios don’t seem to realize that what made it a success was more than likely the really good story and not so much the CGI, but that’s a topic for a different post. The point is that it was, indeed, a pretty great movie, made back when Disney wasn’t so stupid and the actors in there actually still had careers (I absolutely loved Home Improvement while growing up. But that’ll be for another post as well).

No song time today, however, since Toy Story doesn’t really have any songs. At least not the usual Disney musical songs. However, I shall produce the trailer from way back when (at least I think it’s the trailer. Forgive me if it’s not, I was five when this came out).

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/DPMvfaF2tao
What the heck, here’s the intro song (cheesy as crap, but still cute).

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/zB2gPZRsz0Q
I’ve realized that I really miss VHS. I know, DVDs are all sleek and you don’t have to rewind them or fast-forward through the previews and and all that nonsense, but you could fast-forward through the FBI warnings! Remember that? Remember how horrible you felt the first moment you realized that you’d never be able to just skip through that scheiß ever again? Screw all this new stuff and all the special features and compact space, I want to be able to do that again. Oh well, I guess I’ll live with it. Got no more to say at the moment, so I’ll see you later. Don’t know if I’ll be able to watch one tonight, but I will certainly try. :)

It’s too bad they’re french

I did, in fact, watch a childhood movie on thursday night. However, friday was completely hectic, especially seeing as a relative came down from VA to get the interior, among other things, from B.I.L.T.B.’s car (in the pouring rain, might I add) and was staying with us. However, he left this morning, and I have little to do but carve pumpkins today, so I’m making up for it now!

So today’s movie is Beauty and the Beast! I must say, everyone was a lot dumber than I remembered them, but it was still a beautiful movie. For example, instead of, “My father’s cold and sick in the woods, I have to leave you so I can take him back to the town where we never fit in and be ambushed by Gaston,” it could easily have been, “My father’s cold and sick in the woods, I (or we both) can go get him and bring him back to the castle where he’ll be far safer and more comfortable than back in town.” Of course, that would make it harder to bring closure to the whole Gaston storyline, so I guess they have to compromise somewhere. Belle is still high among my favorite princesses, though.

Song time! As always, first up is the love song about love:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/oeoPtz0F2Ck
Second comes the song that personifies the way every male I’ve met age 21 or under feels about himself:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/VaBnWZignkQ
Alright, I’m just kidding. I may have met one who didn’t… just having trouble thinking of who, at the moment. :-P

Dude, that Big Ben scene was absolutely insane

Now that I’ve lost all my few people worth of readership, I finally wached another movie last night! I couldn’t make the post until now because I have been completely swamped all day. On the plus side, we finished my transcript and it is being overnight-ed to the university now. We also got my SAT scores, which were all pretty impressive (Personally, I’m not that pleased with my math score, but it’s still fairly above average. Not above the average NCSU freshman, though).

But you don’t care about that. So my movie today is The Great Mouse Detective. I don’t believe I’ve ever categorized it as my absolute favorite movie, but it’s been consistently high on that list for years. This is an odd occurence, because it really doesn’t have all that much comedy. Of course, I may not have noticed this before, as I found Jurassic Park completely hilarious as a kid.

So it’s a likely candidate for one of the reasons I wanted to be a detective back then, too. It was probably a mix of many things, though. Harriet the Spy and random Olsen twins books (I believe they named themselves “The Trenchcoat Twins” in those) were also large factors. Lawd, I don’t know. ‘Twas a fun time in my life anyhow.

There are actually very few songs in this movie, but I’ll still give you a couple and one more awesome clip. First, the “OMG, this would never fly in a kid’s movie nowadays, but it’s still real catchy” song:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/e2IctxaCPqw
Then the obligatory awesome villain song (the volume’s messed up, so you’ll have to turn up the volume to hear the awesomeness of Vincent Price):

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/5mBHAggsS-s
Lastly, Basil going insane for what is probably the 37th time in the movie (Snap! Boom! Twang! Dunk! Splat!):
alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/JW1-akAUh3U
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go watch tomorrow’s movie.

Historical inaccuracy and my car (the two are unrelated)

I was busy all last night from about 6-on, so I didn’t get a chance to watch a childhood movie. However, I will still talk about one what I don’t really want to watch again and didn’t even see at all until my childhood was about over. ‘Twas called: Anastasia.

People talked about this movie for years and years before I actually got around to seeing it when it came on TV once. Pretty much the only thing anyone really talked about was a certain song in there. It is true that it’s a lovely song. Actually, it’s probably the only thing that makes the movie worthwhile. So here’s the song:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/dIG071_BA5Q

I am not doing this over the weekend. 1: I will not watch a movie every night every week until I run out of them, and 2: I’m actually going to be busy. Tomorrow morning, I get to go with my dad to salvage parts from my brother-in-law-to-be’s car (which was totaled a few weeks ago, but most of it is still in good working condition) for my car, since they’re the same make, model, etc. And mine’s a little broken in ways. For example: it leaks antifreeze/coolant. I’ve also started to notice an oil leak too. That’s probably all that really matters, though. I think my dad said something about the transmission too, but I really wouldn’t think he’d want to replace that whole thing again, since he did it just a year (or so) ago and most certainly didn’t seem to enjoy it (big, heavy, not-fun thing to do. Lots of time lying under the car and such). The one in there now seems to be working fine, too. Ooh, I wonder if we could get that AC to work and put it on my car… that’d be pretty awesome. I’m fine for now, of course, since it’s going into winter and at least my fan and heat work. I’ll actually have places to go next summer, however, so it’d be nice to have it then. These cars really weren’t made for NC weather. Those silly Germans.

Wow, sorry to go on about my car like that. I’m kinda excited about the potential of fixing some of those little problems, though. They’re real great cars, but they’re getting to be pretty old and rather rare, so you have to take good care of them if you want to not break down all the time. Very crash-worthy, though. Goooood cars.

Alright, seriously no more now. Geez, I’m almost like a guy. Sorry to divert from the topic of the post. But hey, at least you got a pretty song to listen to while reading this, right? Yeah, sure. Let’s say that.

The reason I always wanted a pet tiger

Today’s movie is Aladdin! You know, I thought I liked The Lion King better than this, but I do believe I was wrong about that. I’m not even certain what about it I enjoyed more than TLK, but… Yeah, I can’t think of a way to finish this sentence.

Heh, I loved how Jafar acted at first like he only wanted to marry Jasmine so that he’d be Sultan, but it turned out in the end that he’s just a perv. Seriously, watch it! Even after he becomes the most powerful freakin’ sorcerer in the world, he still tries to get her to marry him. The guy’s messed up!

Okay, let’s move on to songs. Here’s the obligatory love song (I find it hilarious how they start out in Arabia, then go to Egypt, Greece, and China all within what’s probably supposed to be an hour):

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/YRi20cWMYOM

And while Jafar never had his own evil plotting song like Scar, he did sing a neat reprise of this rather fun piece:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/ltcMueAFEl0
Which is this:

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/x_FguEpJ3fo
UPDATE: I should probably give some information about my childhood for this, since that is what the whole thing is supposed to be about. So… bonus fact: My sister got an electronic keyboard at one point, and one of the pre-recorded songs on there was “A Whole New World” (just the instrumental, of course). We sometimes liked to sing it together, I think. She always made me sing the part of Aladdin, though, since she just so happens to be a girl and thereby doesn’t want to be a boy. I, being the pushover that I was as a child, agreed. I don’t think we ever got through the whole thing, however. We never learned all the lyrics.

She always made me be the yellow power ranger too, even though I wanted to be the pink one. Ah, the joy of being the youngest child.

It begins………

You know, I think I knew at some point that Mufasa was Darth Vader, but completely forgot, thereby giving myself a very happy surprise yesterday.

Yes! The first movie is The Lion King! I just remembered that I love every song in that movie except Hakuna Matata. I don’t know why, but sometimes a certain song just rubs me the wrong way and I end up hating it (of course, it’s always a song that everyone else likes. I can’t stand Ave Maria for some reason, and I have no earthly idea why). Other than that and the obligatory “don’t kill someone, even if he’s evil and murdered you father and is trying to kill you” message, it’s still pretty good. It had the good animation into which they actually put effort (apparently the stampede took 3 years to make and they had to develop an entire computer program just to do it), and which I know we all miss.

I don’t think I have much more to say other than I’m keeping a working VCR and this particular copy around so that I don’t have to give them money for making it “digitally remastered” (they’ve done that with everything, I’m just assuming this is too) and also taking the “SEX” frame out (seriously, no kid actually notices stuff like that. I had The Little Mermaid for at least a decade before seeing the… image… in the castle on the freakin’ cover! And even then, I had to be told about it first). I don’t believe my childhood has been completely ruined yet by watching this again. Still got a good story and all that jazz.

SONG TIME!

Alright, I’ll give two. First is for the John Edwards part of you. Lovey-dovey and some such nonsense. “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?”

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/RvUIoXmIgJA

Alright, for the totally freakin’ awesome part of you, “Be Prepared.” (Jeremy Irons, FTW)

alt : http://www.youtube.com/v/L0AiN8vrn9Y

Alright, I need to go make breakfast, but I’ll leave you with a bonus fact: When I was a kid, my favorite actor was Jonathan Taylor Thomas, though it was a while before I learned that he did the voice for Simba. Sorry, but I was one of those annoying girls who called him J.T.T. I blame my sister for that one. However, I avoid it as much as possible now. On the other hand, now my favorite actor is someone completely different and I hardly think of him anymore. :-P
